Genesis Cup goes international this weekend
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Genesis Football Academy, based in Mandeville, Manchester, will host the first international edition of their grassroots football tournament, the Genesis Cup, in Jamaica this weekend.
The tournament will be held at Manchester High School in Mandeville on Saturday, May 25, and Sunday, May 26, starting at 8:00 am each day.
The U8 co-ed and U16 girls’ categories will be completed on Saturday, while the other categories will be completed on the second day.
Founder and Technical Director of Genesis Football Academy, Andrew Edwards, shared, “The Genesis Cup was first staged in 2017 with the long-term view of becoming an international tournament, hosting teams from across the CONCACAF region. On this, the sixth staging of the tournament, we are proud to be receiving five teams from three academies from Trinidad for this inaugural international staging.”
The teams from the twin-island republic are the renowned Cox Coaching School (U10 and U16), Duranta Football Academy (U14), and Ultimate Unison Football Academy (U10 and U14).
The international teams will be arriving in Jamaica from Wednesday through Friday.
In total, this staging will host 10 organizations alongside Genesis Football Academy, with 40 teams confirmed. The teams will compete across six age categories: U8 co-ed, U10 co-ed, U12 co-ed, U14 boys, U16 boys, and U16 girls.
In addition to the championship trophies and medals for second and third place, individual awards such as the Golden Boot, Golden Glove, Golden Ball, and Most Valuable Player (MVP) will be up for grabs in each category.
The losing quarter-finalists will also contest the Plate Championships. All teams can expect to play a total of six games over the two days of competition.
Patrons attending the event will be asked to pay $800 for adults and $500 for children 12 and under.
