PEP exams to proceed despite adverse weather conditions
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Ministry of Education has announced that despite the weather conditions currently affecting the island, the Primary Exit Profile (PEP) examinations scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday will proceed as planned.
In a release on Wednesday morning, the Ministry said it is aware of the “unease at a few primary schools serving as examination centres due to the ongoing weather conditions and forecast and has implemented measures to ensure the safety and convenience of students.”
“The safety of our children, teachers, and the examination administration team is our utmost priority. Having consulted with the Meteorological Office of Jamaica as well as key stakeholders in our regions and schools, we have made the decision to proceed with the exams as scheduled,” said Minister Fayval Williams.
She continued, “As per usual, students impacted by the weather are permitted to sit the exam at the school nearest to their homes.” The Ministry reiterated its commitment to ensuring that students can complete their exams in a safe environment.
Baxter’s Mountain Primary, Camberwell Primary, and May River Primary Schools in St Mary are reportedly among the schools affected by the inclement weather. Students scheduled to take the PEP examinations at these schools are required to attend the safest school nearest to their location.
The Ministry says it has coordinated with local authorities to facilitate this transition smoothly and urges parents, guardians, and school staff to keep abreast of weather updates.
