All set for Euro 2024

All set for Euro 2024

As the Euro 2024 draws closer, a number of teams are finalising their preparations for the big tournament. Host Germany will play their final warm-up game against the 2004 winners Greece today, while tournament favourites England will play host to Iceland in their final warm-up game before the tournament gets underway.

Event # 1 – INT FRI – England vs Iceland – 1:45 PM

England take on Iceland in their final warm-up game before the Euro 2024 campaign kicks off, fresh off the back of their routine 3-0 win over Bosnia on Monday. That win was England’s first for this calendar year and ended a run of three consecutive matches without a win, which was a morale-boosting victory ahead of the tournament, which they enter as the pre-tournament favourites. With that said, this game will be the last opportunity for some players to impress before Coach Gareth

Southgate announces his final squad of 26 players. Recent Champions League winner Jude Bellingham and Star striker Harry Kane, who scored 44 goals in all competitions for Bayern Munich, will be aiming to replicate their domestic form on the international stage as England looks to win their first major trophy in over a decade.

Iceland, on the other hand, failed to qualify for the Euros after they were beaten 2-1 by Ukraine in their play-off game. However, they enter this match in decent form, winning three and losing two of their last five matches. Indeed, Iceland will be aiming to pull off another shocker against England, having famously knocked them out at the round of 16 stage in Euro 2016.

Key Stats

• England – England have won their last two matches against Iceland without conceding a single goal, winning the last fixture 4-0.

• Iceland – Iceland have lost six of their last 10 international matches.

Meanwhile, despite their iconic 1-0 win over England at the 2016 Euros, Iceland have lost every other game they have played against England.

• Both sides – England have won three of their four head-to-head matches with Iceland, with the sole defeat coming in a shock loss at the round of 16 in the Euro 2016 campaign.

The betting Tip. England win.

Event # 2 INT FRI – Germany vs Greece – 1:45 PM

Having failed to advance past the group stage of the last World Cup, host Germany will be aiming to win Euro 2024 on home soil. They play their final warm-up match before the tournament gets underway when they host 2004 Euro champions Greece today, Friday, June 7. Following a disastrous 2023 with losses against the likes of Austria, Turkey, and a 5-0 hammering at home from Japan, and following the sacking of then Coach Hansi Flick and the appointment of Julian Nagelsmann, Germany have rebounded nicely in 2024, having gone unbeaten in their last matches against top-class opponents. Firstly, they beat Netherlands 2-1, before a dominant 2-0 win over France. With that said, they will be aiming to improve on their latest showing, having played out a 0-0 stalemate against Ukraine on Monday , June 3.

Greece, the 2004 surprise Euro winners, won’t be at the tournament this time around

as they were defeated 4-2 on penalties in their play-off game against Georgia.

Indeed, the Greeks haven’t played against the Germans since 2012 and will be aiming to secure their first win against the host on their 10th attempt. The Greeks will be aiming to frustrate the goal-shy Germans with their solid defence, having kept four clean sheets in their last six games, with only heavy-hitters France and Netherlands breaching their defensive rearguard recently.

Key Stats

• Germany – Germany have kept clean sheets in two of their last three matches, winning two but failed to score against Ukraine in a 0-0 draw.

• Greece – Greece has gone four consecutive matches without losing in regular time, four of their last six matches have seen less than three goals being scored.

• Both sides – Germany have never lost a game against Greece, winning 6 of their previous nine meetings, with the other three ending in draws.

The betting Tip. Germany win and; Under 3.5 goals being scored.
