Digicel booth set to shine at Jamaica Diaspora Conference

ST JAMES, Jamaica — The “At Home with Digicel” booth is set to become a major centre of attraction for participants at the 10th Biennial Jamaica Diaspora Conference from June 16 to 19, at the Jamaica Convention Centre in Montego Bay.

Featuring a rich array of technologies and opportunities for investing in the country’s digital economy and communities, the Digicel booth showcases the company’s full range of advanced mobile, high-speed fibre-to-the-home, sophisticated business communication services, and philanthropic projects.

For Digicel, it’s all about engaging diaspora-driven partnerships.

“Through our Digicel Business arm, we are helping to catalyse diaspora investments in Jamaica’s booming digital economy by demonstrating how they can get involved in scalable tech-based initiatives that spur local job growth, especially among our young people,” shared Elon Parkinson, head of corporate affairs and communications for Digicel.

Attendees can also explore innovative agency opportunities through sale of top-ups and other Digicel products and services at retail stores overseas.

According to Digicel’s Diaspora Manager, Andre McLean, “This is a great way for our entrepreneurs in the diaspora to support others by offering a convenience that keeps their friends and families better connected, and we look forward to exploring the opportunities with them at the conference.”

Digicel booth’s eye-catching booth also features the work of the company’s philanthropic arm, the Digicel Foundation. Attendees can get a first-hand look at the work of the foundation, which has been improving the lives of over 800,000 people through its investments in community entrepreneurship, environmental protection, education, and special needs valued at over $7.1 billion.

“Elevating diaspora involvement in building our communities is very important to us. We understand the need for this collaboration, and we look forward to exploring the various ways in which they can help,” CEO of the Digicel Foundation, Charmaine Daniels said.

“There are so many projects and ideas that our diaspora can participate in and make a big difference: from special needs to community entrepreneurship; from education to environmental protection; we also welcome their ideas and social mobility initiatives that will improve the lives of the people we serve,” she added.

The four-day event is being held under the theme “Uniting for Jamaica’s Transformation: fostering peace, productivity and youth empowerment”. It comes at a time when, according to Digicel, the company is creating bigger stepping stones for members of the diaspora to participate in investment initiatives, innovations, and social upliftment through the upgrade and expansion of its mobile and fibre networks across Jamaica.

To date, Digicel has invested over $230 billion in Jamaica since its inception in 2001.
