The subject of many songs, Africa is the inspiration for Africa The Motherland, the latest single from singer Alwayne Love, who wrote it after extensive research on the continent.

Produced by Christopher Campbell for South Florida-based T25 Records, it was released on June 28.

The artiste credits the Internet for clarifying misconceptions about Africa.

“I was mainly inspired by the facts revealed about Africa via social media and further research has led me to conclude that Africans are not the uncivilised, barbaric, and docile people that is often depicted by mainstream Western society, but rather the place where civilisation all began, where mathematics, geometry, and so many other disciplines and cultural practices have been invented or created that has tremendously shaped our world today,” he told the Jamaica Observer.

The St Mary-born artiste, who previously recorded as J Love, got his start in gospel circles before switching to secular music. He has recorded songs for high-profile labels such as Tad’s International Record.

A change in moniker has also seen a change in musical focus, a change that can be heard in Africa The Motherland, which he hopes will provide information he never got in school.

“I did not learn enough about Africa as a student in high school except for the triangular trade (trans-atlantic slave trade), which was quite depressing and did not promote any further interest in understanding the motherland,” said Alwayne Love, who hopes one day to visit the region.
