Assessment to be done to facilitate reopening of nation’s airports
KINGSTON, Jamaica — An assessment of conditions at the island’s airports should be carried out in short order to facilitate reopening as Hurricane Beryl continues to move away from Jamaica.
President and Chief Executive Officer of the Airports Authority of Jamaica (AAJ), Audley Deidrick told JIS News on Wednesday that the assessment is to “attend to any issue that may inhibit opening and state how these will be dealt with in short order for the reopening of the facilities.”
Following a viral video of a section of the roof at the Norman Manley International Airport (NMIA) being damaged during the storm, operators of NMIA confirmed that a small section of the roof of the passenger boarding pier was affected.

There have been no reports of damage at the Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay, St James.
