PROSECUTORS have made out a prima facie case against a St James vendor charged in the stabbing death of a man on January 6 this year.

Prima facie refers to a case in which pre-trial evidence was reviewed by a judge and determined to be sufficient to warrant the trial.

The ruling was handed down in St James Parish Court on Thursday during a committal hearing for Chevaughn Moore of Hendon Norwood, St James, who was charged with the murder of Marlon Williams of Sign Irwin in the parish.

Moore is represented by attorney-at-law Suwayne Phillips.

“A prima facie case was made out for the offence of murder and the case will be committed to the next sitting of the St James Circuit Court, to be held on September 19,” presiding judge Natiesha Fairclough-Hylton said.

Following the ruling, Fairclough-Hylton offered the defendant bail in the sum of $600,000 with up to three sureties and reporting conditions.

Moore was also ordered to surrender his travel documents, and a stop order will be placed at all ports to prevent him from leaving the country.

According to the allegations, around 2:30 am Moore was at his stall when he was approached by Williams and an argument developed between them.

During the clash a knife was used to inflict stab wounds to Williams’ chest and neck.

Williams was taken to the hospital where he died while undergoing treatment.

An operation on January 8 led to Moore’s arrest and subsequent charge, following a question-and-answer session.
