Although his set was short, dancehall newcomer Soun Bwoii utilised the Reggae Sumfest platform to show appreciation to his father who joined him on stage during his performance.

The deejay, who made his stint a memorable one, is quite upbeat about making his Sumfest debut, which came months after his viral hit Pump Up.

“My Reggae Sumfest experience was surreal, but at the same time comfortable. I felt like I displayed myself well and gave a well-rounded performance,” said Soun Bwoii, who performed on Festival Night One, Friday July 19.

Soun Bwoii performed Pump Up which was well-received, as well as his new dance single Early and Believe, which was dedicated to his father Lamar Dixon.

“That moment with my father was like everything for me to see how much I’ve gone through in my life and to share that moment with my father, was an amazing bonding experience,” Soun Bwoii said.

He added, “A lot of times we don’t shed light on great fathers, so to highlight my father and know that we can be an inspiration for all fathers to be great and present fathers, was the aim of performing with my father.”

According to Soun Bwoii, his father has been supportive of his musical career.

“My father kept me well-rounded and grounded, and he always went above and beyond for me. Even though my mother played a circumstantial part in my life, my father really helped push my career. He is also an amazing basketball coach,” Soun Bwoii disclosed.

The latest single, Early promises to build on the momentum of Pump Up. Produced by one of the UK’s leading figures in dancehall culture, Toddla T, and co-released on his label Steeze Factory, Early is a global link up made for the summer. Sound Bwoii’s early post has racked up over 100K plays on TikTok already with the anticipation around the upcoming release building fast.

“Early is a song where everyone can learn to dance and have a great time. This is a totally vibes song and being Jamaican you know we always have dance moves, and this is based on a move we call Early,” said Soun Bwoii.
