Three teams seek back-to-back wins in JFF play-offs
TRELAWNY, Jamaica — Three teams, including Duncans United of Trelawny and 12th Street of Westmoreland, who will meet in a Group D game at William Knibb Memorial High, will go seeking back-to-back wins as the Jamaica Football Federation’s Championships play-offs continue today (Saturday) with four games.
Boys Town of Kingston and St Andrew Football Association (KSAFA) Wray & Nephew Championship (KASAFA), who beat Spanish Town Police in their opening game, will host Seaforth at Collie Smith Drive in a Group A game, Exchange of St Ann faces St Mary while Lucea United and Granville United will also meet.
Duncans United whipped Granville United of St James 5-0 at Wespow Park on Wednesday, three days after winning the Trelawny FA title for the first time and will go in search of another win today.
The Westmoreland champions 12th Street had edged Lucea United 1-0 in their first game but had ended the game with 10 players after Nicholas McDonald was sent off in the 68th minute, picking up his second yellow card after getting the first one in the 52nd minute and will not be available for today’s game.
Oshane Plummer, who scored in the Trelawny FA final on Sunday, also bagged a brace for Duncans on Wednesday and could be the player to watch today. Gerald Underhill had given Duncans the lead in the second minute on Wednesday, Renard Cunningham doubled the lead in the 44th minute before Plummer got his first a minute later for a 3-0 halftime lead.
St Derick Pryce, who came off the bench in the second half, made it 4-0 in the 74th minute before Plummer added his seconds in the 82nd minute.
Algermaine Green had scored 12th Street’s goal in the 89th minute. Boys Town will have home-field advantage over Seaforth who are in the play-offs for a second straight season.
