Users of the Portmore leg of Highway 2000 East-West will have a new convenience come 2025. The developer of the six-lane carriageway, TransJamaican Highway Limited (TJH), announced that RUBiS Energy will be constructing a gas station beside the roadway.

“The service station… is designed to enhance the customer experience on the highway. We do anticipate that they will be able to fill up with RUBiS Energy petrol or diesel but also enjoy the services of the convenience store,” explained Melbourne Lyn-Cook, TJH quality and maintenance engineer manager.

“The Portmore highway corridor services 30,000-40,000 vehicles daily and we know our commuters will take advantage of the rest stop, pick up groceries or food or snacks at the restaurant on the way home in the evenings,” Lyn-Cook said.

This station will be the second on Highway 2000 East-West after the Total Jamaica Limited opened a service station on eastbound Old Harbour ramp in St Catherine in 2019.

The footprint for the Portmore gas station will be contained within 0.4 hectares of land, west of the current Highway 2000 East-West sales and administrative offices. Motorists coming from Kingston will enter the area from where the parking lot is located. The station will not impact the national heritage site at Fort Augusta.

Lyn-Cook explained that, on completion, motorists coming from Portmore can enter the gas station from Port Henderson Road (Back Road) before entering the highway via the flyover bridge.

“We anticipate that the greatest demand for gas will be in the evening. That was the reason why the mapping focused on the westbound side, as a convenience to our customers returning home after work or after activities in the Corporate Area,” Lyn-Cook shared.
