Simone Forbes mulls Netball Jamaica decision
SIMONE Forbes, first vice-president of Netball Jamaica (NJ), has remained undecided about whether or not she will be seeking re-election for the position at the annual general meeting (AGM), which is due this year.
All the current positions in NJ — including the post of president, which is currently being held by Tricia Robinson, along with the directors’ positions — are all up for re-election this year. Forbes, a former Sunshine Girls captain, has been the first vice-president of NJ since October 2021.
Forbes, 43, who is one of the country’s most decorated netball players, told the Jamaica Observer that she has no interest in running for the post of president. She also noted that she is yet to make up her mind as to whether or not she will be seeking re-election for the post of first vice-president at NJ.
“I can’t speak to that. I am not sure, but I know that I am not going up for the presidency,” said Forbes. “But in terms of anything else, I am unable to say whether I will or I won’t — I don’t know.”
Robinson has been president of NJ since February 2020, taking over from Paula Daley-Morris who spent four years at the helm of the organisation. She has remained coy about whether she will seek re-election as head of the association.
Forbes indicated that the association has been working assiduously to ensure that the audited financial reports are complete this year so that they will be able to stage the AGM before the end of 2024.
“The most I can say is that we are projected to have the AGM before the end of 2024. We are now in the auditing process and so we are projecting to have everything ready so we can have the AGM before the end of the year,” she said. “All the positions will be up for elections, including the president and the vice-president.”
