‘Universe Boss’ receives iTunes plaque for Tropical House Cruises to Jamaica, The Asian Edition album
KINGSTON, Jamaica— Former West Indian cricket legend Christopher “Universe Boss” Gayle recently received an iTunes plaque commemorating his achievement on the iTunes Electronic Albums chart.
Gayle received his #1 USA Reggae ITunes plaque for the album Tropical House Cruises to Jamaica, The Asian Edition.
The album featured Lauryn Hill, Capleton, Sizzla and more.
Gayle was elated over the achievement.
“It’s always good to have something to show for the music and thing. Contractor big up yourself. Big up yourself Contractor,” he said as he placed the plaque on the wall at the front of his Triple Century recording studio.
“That’s rich. It’s going to go right here on the wall. This is perfect. As you walk through the door you are going to see it. It’s going to be right here,” he added
The former cricketer was the headliner of the album which was being marketed at the Asian market, specifically India, where Chris Gayle is lionised in the sport of cricket. He has two singles on the album which are duets with Camar Flava and a New York- based female singer named Shav A.
Gayle made his recording debut in early 2020 when he teamed up with Indian rapper Emiway Bantai on the track Jamaica to India. Later that year, he teamed up with Tanto Blacks for We Come Out to Party, produced by Kurt Riley.
Gayle, who played international cricket for the West Indies since 1999, has set numerous records across all three formats of the game. He is the most-capped player for the West Indies in international cricket and is the only player to score a triple hundred in Tests, double hundred in One-Day Internationals (ODIs), and a hundred in Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is).
He announced his retirement from international cricket in November 2021.
