Happy Grove, Dinthill score big wins in daCosta Cup

Happy Grove High continued their good start to the ISSA/Wata daCosta Cup competition after a 10-1 win over Robert Lightbourne High in their Zone L game played at Hectors River in Portland on Tuesday.

Shevon Miller scored four times and Bonny Chisholm had a hat-trick for Happy Grove High, who were winning back to back games to start the season and ran their first round record since last season to eight straight wins after topping their zone last season, winning all six games.

Meanwhile, last season’s semi-finalists Dinthill Technical also got off to a fast start, hammering Tacius Golding High 12-0 in their Zone J game played at Dinthill Technical.

Twelve games are scheduled for today as former winners and last season’s finalists Glenmuir High, Seaforth High and Port Antonio High all go after back-to-back wins.

Holmwood Technical and Bellefield High, winners of their opening games on Saturday, will also meet in a Zone G game at Holmwood.

Holmwood Technical were 4-0 winners over Alston High while Bellefield High got the better of last season’s zone winners Mile Gully 2-1.

Both Holmwood and Bellefield shared wins against each other last season but ultimately failed to get past the first round and will hope to make amends.

Glenmuir High, got off to a fast start on Saturday, beating Kemps Hill 5-0 and takes on Porus High who lost all eight games last season and conceded 92 goals.

Yesterday, Happy Grove continued where they left off last year as they hammered Robert Lightbourne High who were losing their 18th straight spanning the last three seasons.

Miller scored in the 16th, 17th, 50th and 57th minutes, Chisholm scored in the 14th, 47th and 64th minutes while Oshane Chambers got a brace, scoring in the ninth and 44th minutes and Jabari Ellis scored in the 69th minute.

Pert Jon Williams got the consolation for Robert Lightbourne High in the 81st minute.

At Dinthill Technical, Giovanni Afflick scored a hat trick while Raphael Smith and Tyrese Gowe both got two each while Shamair Hutchinson, Wayne Sewell, Rodain Reid, Okeeno McCarthy and an own goal accounted for the other goals.

Former champions Rusea’s High came from a goal down to beat Cambridge High 3-1 in Lucea and Frome Technical edged Green Island High 2-1, both in Zone B games.

Jade Lynch’s 81st minute goal saw St Elizabeth Technical edge Maggotty High 1-0.

Seron Williams scored a double to lead William Knibb Memorial to a 3-0 win over Muschett High in Wakefield with Joshua Walker scoring the other in the game that was affected by rain.
