Glenmuir High and Port Antonio High win back-to-back games

Glenmuir High and Port Antonio High win back-to-back games

Former champions Glenmuir High hammered Porus High 13-0 as they were one of three teams with back-to-back wins to start the Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA) Wata daCosta Cup football competition on Wednesday.

Port Antonio High beat St Mary High 4-1 while Holmwood Technical outscored Bellefield High 4-3 to take their records to two wins in their respective zones.

Two Zone M games are set to be played today — Wycliffe Martin High versus Horace Clarke High and St Mary Technical versus Iona High, all seeking their first wins of the season.

Wycliffe Martin High will play their first game, taking on Horace Clarke High, who were beaten 6-1 by St Mary High, while Iona High will hope to rebound from their 10-0 loss to Titchfield High on Monday.

On Wednesday, Orel Miller scored his second hat-trick of the season to lead Glenmuir High, while Orane Watson also scored a three-timer for the Andre Peart-coached team as they romped to another big win after opening the season with a 5-0 win over Kemps Hill on Saturday.

Dunstin Cohen and Ricardo Binns also got two goals each, while Nmuemonie Blackwood and Tajaun Cummings also scored as well, an own goal contributed to the widest margin of the season so far.

Kerone George scored a brace and Shaquone Hardware and Dwayne Rodgers also scored for Port Antonio High as they took over the lead in Zone M, beating St Mary High 4-1.

Holmwood Technical, who had won 4-0 over Alston High in their opening game, outscored Bellefield High 4-3 in their game after Bellefield had also won their first game.

Garth-Dane Bromwell scored a double for Green Pond High as they opened their season with a 2-1 win over Maldon High at Green Pond in Zone A.

Bromwell beat the Maldon High goalkeeper Lajaun Birch at his near-right post in the 50th minute to give Green Pond the lead and doubled the advantage in the 65th minute when he scored from the penalty spot.

Kevin Hawthorne halved the deficit when he scored for Maldon High in the 76th minute.

Irwin High were held 2-2 at home by St James High, also in a Zone A game.

In Savanna-la-Mar, Mannings School blanked Black River High 2-0 in their Zone C game with goals from Jarvis Meylor and national Under-20 representative Dainton Williams.

BB Coke, who advanced to the quarter-finals for the first time last season, opened their season with a 5-1 win over Newell High to take over the lead on goal difference in E.

Knox College and Paul Bogle High, who lost in their opening games, bounced back to beat Alston High 2-0 and St Thomas Technical 3-0 respectively.
