Liverpool aims to maintain perfect start against Nottingham Forest

Arsenal, Tottenham square off in North London derby

The Premier League returns with a bang as the fiercely contested North London derby takes centre stage when Tottenham and Arsenal square off this Sunday. However, on Saturday, red-hot Liverpool will host Nottingham Forest, as they aim to maintain their impressive start to the new campaign.

Event # 1 – EPL – Liverpool vs Nottingham Forest – 9:30 AM

Liverpool have enjoyed a perfect start to the 2024 season and will be aiming to make it four wins from four games when they host Nottingham Forest at Anfield tomorrow, Saturday, September 14. Indeed, it has been a dream start to life at Liverpool for new manager Arne Slot, who took over from Jurgen Klopp in the summer. Liverpool sit second in the table with three wins from three, behind Manchester City on goal difference. Going back to last season, Liverpool have been in scintillating form, going unbeaten in their last 12 league matches, and made a huge statement of intent by beating rivals Manchester United 3-0 at Old Trafford before the international break, to signal their title challenging intentions this season.

Despite making a solid start to their new campaign, Nottingham Forest will face their biggest test to date, when they travel to Anfield to take on the in-form Liverpool side. Indeed, Forest have won once and drawn twice to sit ninth in the league table and will be aiming to upset the applecart with a big win over their more fancied opponents. However, since Nottingham Forest’s return to the Premier League in 2022, they have faced Liverpool four times, losing three and winning the other, and that win came on their home soil, in their first game back in the top flight. Last season, Liverpool did the double over Forest, beating them 1-0 away from home and 3-0 at Anfield, so Forest will be aiming to end their winless run against the Reds, which might be a difficult task away from home, based on the current form of the Reds.

Key Stats

● Liverpool – Liverpool did the double over Forest last season which means they have now beaten Nottingham Forest on six straight occasions at Anfield.

● Forest – Nottingham have not won a game at Anfield since 1969.

● Both sides – Liverpool have scored 19 goals in their last five home matches against Nottingham Forest.

The betting Tip. Liverpool win.

Event # EPL – Tottenham vs Arsenal – 8:00 AM

Two bitter rivals meet in a super Sunday showdown as the first North London derby of the new campaign takes place at the London stadium, when Tottenham and the Gunners, Arsenal, come face to face in what could be an exciting shootout. Both sets of fans will be bracing themselves for bragging rights as to which team is the king of North London. Indeed, there are a number of huge derbies in the Premier League, including the Liverpool vs Manchester United NatWest derby, but the bitterness of this North London derby divide has truly stood the test of time, when it comes to modern football rivalries. With that said, many fans consider the North London derby to be the purest and fiercest of the English game. But why? In the early 2000s, Arsenal were seen as one of the more prestigious clubs in the country, while Tottenham struggled to climb their way out of mid-table mediocrity. The Arsenal fans then developed a yearly celebration dubbed “St Totteringham’s Day,” which usually falls on the day when it becomes mathematically impossible for Tottenham to finish above Arsenal. That suffering all changed in 2016 when Tottenham finished above Arsenal for the first time in 22 years. From then on, Tottenham finished higher than their bitter rivals for the next five seasons. In 2022, the pendulum swung again, with Arsenal pushing Man City for the title.

With that said, Tottenham will be looking to improve on their lukewarm start to the new season, having won one, drawn one, and losing one in their opening three matches. While Arsenal, on the other hand, have had a better start, winning twice and drawing in one of their opening three matches. Ahead of the international break, Tottenham were beaten 2-1 by Newcastle, which meant that have now lost six of their last 10 Premier League matches, but they have won five of their last seven home matches, which adds more spice to the derby, with Arsenal arriving without two of their key players in Captain Martin Odegaard, through injury, and Declan Rice, through a red card. But, prior to being held to a 1-1 draw by Brighton before the international break, Arsenal had won eight Premier league matches in a row and will arrive at Tottenham as the slight favourites to take all three points.

Key Stats

●Tottenham – Tottenham had the fifth best home record in the Premier League last season and have won seven of their last 10 home matches.

•Arsenal – Arsenal have won four of their last five matches in all competitions.

•Both sides – Last season, Arsenal took home bragging rights in the North London derby by drawing at home before beating Tottenham 2-3 away, which means Tottenham have now lost back-to-back home derby games to Arsenal.

The betting Tip. Tottenham win.
