Four straight for Happy Grove, Port Antonio, Holmwood in daCosta Cup

Four straight for Happy Grove, Port Antonio, Holmwood in daCosta Cup

Happy Grove High, Port Antonio High, and Holmwood Technical all claimed their fourth-straight win, while defending champions Clarendon College were one of four teams to get a third win in the ISSA/Wata daCosta Cup football competition on Wednesday.

Happy Grove High, who beat Seaforth High 4-0, Port Antonio High, who were 4-1 winners over Horace Clarke High, and Holmwood, who were 3-1 winners over Knox College, joined Glenmuir High as the schools to win their first four games.

Shevone Miller got a brace to lead Happy Grove in their win over the second-placed team in the zone and improved their advantage after third-placed Yallahs High had their two-game win streak cut, losing 2-1 to Morant Bay High.

Happy Grove High are on 12 points, five more than Seaforth High, who are ahead of Yallahs High, who are third on six points.

Port Antonio High also improved to 12 points with their win as Titchfield High moved into second place on seven points after their 2-1 win over St Mary High.

Titchfield High, who ended the game with 10 players, had goals from Sanjay Marshall and Taffano Bryan, who scored a penalty in the 82nd minute, while Narvar Logan had equalised for St Mary High in the eighth minute.

Bryan was later sent off in time added in the second half.

Clarendon College slammed Thompson Town 6-0 to assume the lead in Zone H on nine points and Denbigh High are second after their 5-1 win over Edwin Allen High.

Ocho Rios High improved their advantage in Zone K after a 4-0 win over Aabuthnott Gallimore High, with Tyrese Brown scoring a hat-trick and Ryan Francis getting the other.

Ocho Rios High are now on nine points after a third-straight win, four more than second place Ferncourt High.

William Knibb Memorial managed a 1-0 win over Discovery Bay High for their third win as well and Michael Reid and Javis Lloyd scored for Manchester High in their 2-1 win over deCarteret College.

Tyrese Gowe and Raheem Harris both scored doubles to lead Dinthill Technical to a 6-0 win over Charlemont High as Gaybriel Anderson and Giovanni Afflick also got one goal each.

This was the second win for Dinthill Technical as they joined McGrath High on six points but has a better goal difference.

At Jarrett Park, St James High rallied twice to earn an exciting 3-3 draw with Green Pond High.

Green Pond got off to a fast start and were leading 2-0 with goals from Garth-Dane Bromwell in the seventh minute and Jerome Whynn in the 16th minute.

St James hit back with goals from Kevar Stewart in the 36th minute and Rory Smith in the 43rd minute as they were tied at 2-2 at half-time.

Bromwell restored Green Pond High’s lead in the 46th minute, but St James salvaged a point when Tariq Kerr scored in the 77th minute.
