Central score historic daCosta Cup win over Clarendon College

CENTRAL High School scored their first-ever ISSA/Wata daCosta Cup victory, over defending champions Clarendon College (CC) 1-0 in their Zone H first-round game played at Central High in May Pen, Clarendon, on Saturday.

Alrick Archer’s second-half goal was the difference for Central High who were winning their third-straight game of the season, joining CC on nine points at the top of the table.

This was CC’s first loss in the first round of the daCosta Cup since the 2021 season when they were edged 1-0 by Glenmuir High, ending an 18-game run; and it was the first time since a 1-1 draw against Edwin Allen High in 2022 — a span of 15 games — that they had failed to win a first-round game.

Meanwhile, Holmwood Technical raced to their fifth straight win, while

Belair High trounced Manchester High 5-1 to win their fourth-straight as Ocho Rios High, William Knibb Memorial, and Spot Valley High also won four straight and Cornwall College chalked up a third-straight win.

Holmwood Technical became the third school to win a fifth-straight after their 2-1 triumph over Mile Gully High, joining Glenmuir High and Happy Grove High with five victories.

Ajwani Wauchope scored a brace to lead Belair to their second win over Manchester High in three seasons, while Christian Henry, Miguel Harrison and Jayvion Rocket all got one each.

Keanu Reid scored a hat-trick and Tyrese Brown got two goals as Ocho Rios High hammered York Castle High 7-0 in Zone I.

Joint Zone D leaders William Knibb Memorial and Spot Valley both scored 3-0 wins over Cedric Titus High and Muschett High, respectively, in a double-header played at Trelawny Stadium.

Seron Williams scored in the first half while Jaheem Brown and Orville Brown scored in the second half for William Knibb in their win over Cedric Titus High in the second game.

Chrisano Lawrence, Keyanta Clarke and Stevan Mullings all scored in the second half for Spot Valley High who were winning their first four games for the first time since the 2016 season.

Corlando Morris scored a double for Cornwall College in their 2-1, come-from-behind win over St James High at Jarrett Park, after he had scored his maiden daCosta Cup goal in Tuesday’s 1-0 win over Irwin High.

In Zone I, Old Harbour High came from 0-2 down in the first half to shock Garvey Maceo High 3-2.

Rivals Munro College and St Elizabeth Technical ended 1-1 in their Zone E derby played at Munro as the home team lost their perfect win record.
