For the second straight month, singer-songwriter Hopeton Lindo has topped the Jamaica Music Countdown chart, this time with Favorite Girl, one of the songs from his Favorite Riddim album.

The song is number one for the week starting September 20, after being number two the previous cycle. Favorite Girl also topped the South Florida Reggae Chart, one of three singles from the album to accomplish that feat.

In August, the Favorite Riddim compilation went number one on the Jamaica Music Countdown Top 10 Albums/CD chart. The seven-song album, produced by Lindo, was released in April.

Based in South Florida, he addressed the importance of Jamaican artistes who live abroad, staying relevant in their homeland.

“It’s very important to get a number one song in Jamaica especially right after producing a number one album in Jamaica for the first time. For an artiste who resides overseas, it’s very gratifying and I am grateful for the support,” he said.

The Favorite Riddim contains songs by Sanchez (The Best in Me), Anthony Malvo (I Can’t), Inique Novel-T and Peter G. Not Taking No by Peter G and I Love The Way by Novel-T, also topped the South Florida Reggae Chart.

Lindo is from the Kencot area of Kingston, where he started his career as a sound system singer in the late 1970s. In the 1980s, he was one of the artistes who could be found at the studios of producers Osbourne “King Tubby” Ruddock and Lloyd “King Jammy” James, in Waterhouse, Kingston.

Territory, Lindo’s breakthrough hit, was released in 1987.
