Happy Grove gets top seed for play-offs; Titchfield secure spot

HAPPY Grove High clinched the number one ranking in the Zone H play-offs for the ISSA/Wata daCosta Cup football competition, and Titchfield High secured their spot from Zone M after a rain-affected round of matches on Wednesday.

At least eight of the 14 games scheduled to be played on Wednesday had to be postponed due to continuous heavy rain and waterlogged fields.

Happy Grove High, who had already secured their place in the four-team play-offs, ensured their top spot with a 3-1 win over second-placed Paul Bogle High while Titchfield joined Port Antonio High from Zone M after a 3-0 win over Horace Clarke High.

Bonny Chisholm scored a brace to lead Happy Grove High, netting in the 42nd and 59th minutes, after Jevon Miller had opened the scoring in the 23rd minute.

Titchfield High won their third-straight game and improved to 13 points, two behind leaders Port Antonio and with goals from Taffano Bryan in the eighth minute, Brian Williams in the 81st minute, and Riquelme Brown in time added.

Meanwhile, Munro College increased their lead in Zone F after outscoring Maggotty High 3-2 and improving to 13 points — five more than second-placed BB Coke High.

Antwone Smith scored a double, including a last-minute winner, to break a 2-2 deadlock while Roshane Wint scored the other.

Former champions St Elizabeth Technical High came from behind to earn a 1-1 draw with Newell High but are still in fourth place on six points from five games, and have scored just four goals.

In Zone L, Yallahs High beat Seaforth High 2-0 to join Paul Bogle High on nine points in second place.
