MADRID DERBY: Real, Atletico square off in mouth-watering clash

...Bayern Munich, Bayern Leverkusen in blockbuster showdown

Two of the biggest league derbies will take centre stage this weekend as Germany’s top two sides, Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen, square off in a blockbuster showdown on Saturday, September 28, then on Sunday, Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid collide in the Madrid derby, which should have fans on the edge of their seats.

Event # 1 — GER — Bayern Munich vs Bayer Leverkusen — 11:30AM

The dethroned champions, Bayern Munich, will host the current champions Bayer Leverkusen at the Allianz Arena Saturday, aiming to maintain their unbeaten start to the new campaign, as they look to reclaim their title they lost to Leverkusen last season. Indeed, it’s the top two teams in the Bundesliga facing off in a potentially season-defining clash. Bayern Munich have made an impressive start to the season having won all four league games and enter this vital clash off the back of an impressive 5-0 hammering, dished out on Werder Bremen last weekend. Their impressive run to start the season includes a 6-1 beating of Holstein Keil and a 9-2 thrashing of Dinamo Zagreb in Champions League action. At home, Bayern are equally devasting in front of goal having scored 16 times from four matches, while conceding just four times.

Meanwhile, last year, Bayer Leverkusen managed to knock Bayern Munich off the Bundesliga perch they have sat for 11 straight seasons to win the Bundesliga title for the first time in their history. Indeed, so impressive were Leverkusen that they went the entire Bundesliga season unbeaten, breaking all sorts of records along the way. However, Bayer Leverkusen have not had the perfect start this season as they have won three and lost one of their opening four matches. Leverkusen have been scoring goals for fun to start the season, they thrashed Hoffenheim 4-1, then battered Feyenoord 4-0 in Champions League action, before beating Wolfsburg 4-3 in a thrilling encounter last weekend, to head into this crucial clash with confidence at an all-time high. Furthermore, Leverkusen have been outstanding on the road lately, winning five of their last six away matches in the Bundesliga and drawing once, while scoring 19 and conceding just five goals during this impressive run.

Key Stats

• Bayern Munich — Bayern Munich have won their last 7 matches in a row and have won 5 of the last 6 while scoring 2 or more goals in each of them.

• Bayer Leverkusen — Leverkusen have won 8 of their last 10 away matches in the Bundesliga while scoring 2 or more goals in each of those wins.

• Both sides — Bayern Munich are unbeaten in their last 9 home matches, while Bayer Leverkusen are unbeaten in their last four away matches. Last season Bayer Leverkusen beat Bayern Munich 3-0 at home and then drew 2-2 away at Bayern.

The betting tip: Bayern win & both teams to score.

Event # Spain — ATL Madrid vs Real Madrid — 2:00PM

One of the biggest football rivalries will take place this Sunday in the Spanish Capital, as Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid collide for bragging right as to which team is the king of Madrid. Indeed, this derby had it’s first edition in 1906, and since then, these two great rivals from the Spanish capital have met on 236 occasions, with Real Madrid winning most of those, and they are favoured to come out on top again this Sunday. With that said, Atletico Madrid have been having an excellent season so far and are unbeaten at home this season, both in the league and the Champions League. In their most recent home game, they beat German side RB Leipzig 2-1. Ahead of this expected thriller, Atletico Madrid sits fourth in the league, unbeaten so far with three wins and three draws from their opening six matches.

Real Madrid, on the other hand, currently occupies second position in the table, behind leaders Barcelona, and they too have made an unbeaten start to the season, winning five and drawing two of their opening seven league games. With that said, Real Madrid will be sweating over the availability of one of their playersin the form of Kylian Mbappe, who suffered an injury in Madrid’s last game against Alaves. However, Real Madrid are blessed with an array of attacking talents which should soften the blow for the fans if Mbappe fails to recover in time for the match. Indeed, Real Madrid have been in excellent goal scoring form to start the season, netting three or more goals in their last three overall matches.

Key Stats

• Atletico Madrid — Atletico Madrid are unbeaten so far this season, after their opening six matches, and are also unbeaten in their last 12 matches dating back to last season. They are yet to concede a goal at home in any competition this season.

• Real Madrid — Real Madrid are unbeaten so far this season after their opening seven matches and are also unbeaten in their last 39 overall matches in all competitions.

• Both sidesAtletico Madrid are unbeaten against Real Madrid during 90 minutes in their last six head-to-head meetings.

The betting tip: Draw.
