See What the Lord Has Done

See What the Lord Has Done

On your wedding day, you’re gonna sing that

Can you see what the Lord has done?

When you walk into that property

Can you see what the Lord has?

When that healing happens

What we’ve been praying for, He has brought to pass

See what the Lord has done…

Majestic melodies and these heart-warming lyrics filled the high ceilings of Zion United Church when the Adoracion Chorale, assisted by 150 family and friends sang the words to Nigerian gospel songwriter and pastor Nathaniel Bassey’s See What the Lord Has Done a cappella style as educator Sharlene Leslie, escorted by her father Benjamin Leslie, made her way up the aisle to her love, logistics professional Imani King.

The absence of instrumental accompaniment during her procession was not planned, but worked out beautifully as there was a lack of electricity due to the passing of Hurricane Beryl three days prior.

It was music magic! And perfectly a propos for this couple’s story…

Theirs was a chance encounter in 2016… Imani was a student at the Caribbean Maritime University studying Logistics and Supply Chain Management, and Sharlene, a guidance counselling student at the Sam Sharpe Teachers’ College. Both institutions share the same campus. Who knew that one day as Sharlene’s voice echoed in song along a corridor that around the corner would come Imani, who not only joined in, but in perfect harmony!

Cupid’s quivering arrow scored a bull’s eye.

The proposal

On January 7, 2023, Imani told Sharlene to get dressed for what she believed to be a date night. It was in fact a trip to Falmouth’s resort hotel Glistening Waters, home of Luminous Lagoon. Surrounded by the beauty and with the glowing lagoon as a backdrop, Imani asked for Sharlene’s hand in marriage. She happily said yes.

The nuptials

The striking brick façade, high ceilings, grand wooden doors, and rich mahogany finishes created the perfect backdrop for Imani and Sharlene’s royal-themed nuptials on Saturday, July 6, 2024. As light shone through the elegant stained-glass windows, and with the presence of the Lord in the midst, the couple exchanged vows led by Reverend Paul King from the Norwood Wesleyan Holiness Church. The bride wore custom Rebirth Couture by Renea Brown, while the groom’s suit was expertly crafted by Woodroy Wauchope of Woody’s Tailoring.

The reception

The MEET Conference Centre, on MoBay’s Hip Strip, was transformed into a lavish emerald, gold, and white oasis by Blooms Bouquet. Guests mingled during the cocktail hour, later securing the quintessential shots at the 360 photobooth and dancing to the sounds of Rising Star 2023 contestant Raneka Lee. The bride and groom kicked things off with their first dance as husband and wife to For Life by Moses Bliss, which escalated into a dynamic dance number from the entire bridal party. Later, they cut into a three-tier fruitcake by Magical Cakes Jamaica principal Davio Henry. The evening ended with a gospel jam session featuring Montego Bay gospel artiste Shaundre Cowan among other ministers such as Donovan Campbell, brotherof the groom Knollis King.

The couple later honeymooned at Royalton Blue Waters Hotel Trelawny & Decameron Club Caribbean, Runaway Bay.
