Onique tops the Canadian reggae chart with This Too Shall Pass

JAMAICAN-BORN and Canada-based reggae singer Onique tops the Rebel Vibez Top Ten Canadian Reggae chart with This Too Shall Pass.

This is his third entry on the chart. In 2022 he charted with Worthy and Big Billi, a collaboration with Blistas.

This too Shall Pass was released in March via Neqz Records.

Onique (real name Onique Clarke) moved to Toronto, Canada, in 2013. He is originally from the district of Mount Moriah, a small community in St Ann which is located between Cave Valley and Spaulding. He attended Edwin Allen High school.

“I have only started doing music professionally for about four years now. I originally started producing for others but given how I normally coach them when they are recording, I was constantly told that I should venture into the artiste realm also. So, I entered like three years ago, and it has been great,” Onique shared.

Onique has produced songs for the likes of singer Tiffany Malvo, multi-Juno award-winning singjay Exco Levi, as well as Ginjah, Shane O, among others. Among his projects are the Million Smiles rhythm, Pure Soul rhythm and the Wall Fire rhythm.

On other regional reggae charts, Wiseman by Damian Marley spends a second week in the number one position on the Foundation Radio Network (New York) Reggae chart.

Meanwhile, Everything I Own by Sleepy Wonder steps up from number six to four, while I Won’t Last a Day Without You by Jozee and In the Ghetto by Grub Cooper enter at numbers 29 and 30, respectively.

You Must Believe Me by Keith Cole remains at the top of the South Florida Reggae chart but Grateful by Etana moves up to number eight.

The sole new entry is Fool’s Love by Kristine Alicia, which debuts at number 25.

Moving now to the Billboard Reggae Albums chart where Bob Marley and the Wailers continue their reign in the number one spot, Legend clocks 246 non-consecutive weeks.

Dutty Classics Collection by Sean Paul inches up to number two, with
Best of Shaggy: The Boombastic Collection by Shaggy dipping to number three.

World on Fire by Stick Figure is steady at number four, Greatest Hits by UB40 remains at number five, while Set in Stone and Wisdom by Stick Figure are numbers six and seven, respectively.

Rebelution’s Courage to Grow rises to number eight while Damian Marley’s 2005 Grammy-winning album Welcome to Jamrock moves up to number nine.

Bob Marley’s Rastaman Vibration re-enters at number 10.

On Billboard’s Latin charts, producer Rvssian’s Santa, which features Rauw Alejandro and Ayra Starr, continues its downward trajectory. Santa also backtracks from number 16 to number 18 on Hot Latin Songs, while on Latin Airplay it steps down from number 17 to number 20. It remains at number nine on Latin Rhythm Airplay.

In the meantime, the two Jamaican females impacting urban radio in America, Shenseea and Tina, aka HoodCelebrityy, continue to maintain their positions on rhythmic charts.

Shenseea’s Work Me Out featuring Wizkid inches up from number 46 to number 45 in its second week on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart. She has better luck on Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay, though, as the song moves up from number 31 to number 29. On the Rhythmic Top 40 chart Work Me Out moves up from number 38 to number 37.

HoodCelebrityy’s Roses slips one place down to number 44 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay while backtracking from number 27 to number 28 on the Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart.
