Wolmer’s Waite vows to keep intensity versus St Mary’s College
Wolmer’s Boys’ Head Coach Jerome Waite says no stone will be left unturned this afternoon when his charges take on minnows St Mary’s College in the Digicel Manning Cup Zone E encounter at St Mary’s College.
Match time is 3:30 pm.
Wolmer’s, who made it to the quarter-finals of last season’s competition, has been in impressive form so far, currently leading the zone with a maximum of 18 points from six matches.
They are followed by Tivoli Gardens with 15 points, St Jago with 12, Denham Town with four, St Mary’s College with two, and Edith Dalton James with one. Wolmer’s have scored 29 goals while conceding four times.
Waite noted that while he does not know much about his opponents, he is not going to take them for granted because any team in the competition can be a threat on the day.
“I have not seen them before, but I think they have drawn two games. It is important to assess them after the first half and then do what we need to do in the second half,” he said.
“I expect my players to continue working assiduously as they have from the start of the season. We are never ever going to underestimate any team because on a given day, they can put you to the test. But so far we have been doing well, scoring goals and minimising our mistakes.”
The veteran coach pointed out that he has assembled a very young team for this year’s competition, and they have been performing well. He expects them to continue improving as the season progresses.
“This is a young team, and we are building for the future because we have a lot of youngsters, even 14-year-olds, playing for us. We are trying to give them valuable experience at this Under-19 level, so hopefully next year they can become better players,” Waite stated.
