“I’ve always wanted to have a long walk down the aisle due to the amount of years we’ve been in love with each other…While driving to St Mary one day with my brother we drove past Carey Island, stopped had a look, and instantly fell in love,” Symonia tells Tuesday Style Vows (TSV).

And so it was! On Saturday, August 10, 2024, as Brian McKnight’s Back at One and Heartland’s I Loved Her First played, Symonia Brown — escorted first by her sons Dante Rhodes and Demetri Harris then by her father Albert Brown — made her grand entrance into the ceremony space by walking across a bridge that connected Carey Island’s main grounds to the charming private island, and into the arms of her first love Benjamin Savery. A moment three decades in the making!

“We started seeing each other over 30 years ago. He was my first love at a tender age,” Symonia shares. “After a few years of dating, Benjamin migrated to Canada and I moved to England, a few years later. Over the years we would keep in touch but we eventually lost contact.”

“Six years ago we got back in touch,” continues Symonia, detailing the magical reconnection. “We met up in Jamaica at the Bahia Principe Runaway Bay. Within 24 hours, Benjamin had proposed!”

After struggling to find a wedding planner, Symonia, who resides in England, says she decided to do it herself. “I used Instagram to find business places that rent items such as chairs, tables, tents, etc. I bought all the decorations in the UK and shipped them out,” she explains.

The result? The ceremony of her dreams witnessed by 100 family and friends, followed by a reception led by MC Tricia Cameron.

The Saverys will enjoy a snow-filled honeymoon in Canada later this year.
