Contenders look to make statement in Alberga Cup quarter-finals

STS Peter and Paul Prep and El Instituto De Mandevilla recorded the biggest wins in the opening quarter-final group stage matches of the JISA/Canopy Insurance National Under-12 Alberga Cup football competition on Saturday, and both teams will face tough opposition this afternoon as they look to continue their impressive starts to the round.

Sts Peter and Paul inflicted a heavy 7-0 defeat on visitors American International School of Kingston (AISK) in their Group C encounter. Sts Peter and Paul are now set to go up against Emmanuel Christian Academy (ECA) today at AISK, in a contest they will be expecting to win. But they will be wary of the potential threat posed by their opponents. Match time is 12:00 pm.

In the other Group C quarter-final-round fixture, AISK and Hydel are set to lock horns at 1:30 pm at AISK. In their opening match ECA had to claw their way back to earn a 3-3 draw with Hydel and will be hoping to upstage their hosts as both teams hunt their first win of the quarter-finals.

El Instituto hammered Wolmer’s 9-2 in their match on Saturday but will face a much tougher test when they welcome 2023 finalists Hillel Academy to deCarteret College in Manchester, starting at noon. That match will go a long way towards determining the honours in Group B.

Hillel also got their round off to a relatively comfortable start with a 3-0 victory over St Andrew Prep on Saturday.

St Andrew Prep will turn their attention to Wolmer’s Prep, who they will face at Buttercup Park at 12:30 pm in the group’s other matchup.

Lannaman’s, who got the better of Glenmuir 5-0 in Group A action on Saturday, will tackle Mona Prep, the defending champions, in the most highly anticipated match of the day. The kick-off time is scheduled for 1:30 pm at Buttercup Park.

On Saturday, Mona and the other Group A contenders Liberty Academy played out a back-and-forth 2-2 draw in one of the most exciting matches of the season.

Liberty will like their chances against Glenmuir, who they will meet at 12:00 pm at Versalles Field in May Pen, Clarendon.
