UN Head calls for more support to Haiti mission
PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti – The UN Secretary-General is calling for more cash and logistical support for the ongoing Multinational Security Support (MSS) mission in Haiti following reports of escalating violence where armed gangs are reported to be gaining ground in the capital Port-au-Prince.
In a statement Tuesday, spokesperson for the Secretary General, Stéphane Dujarric reiterated his strong supports for the Haitian National Police, with the backing of the MSS to address the mounting violence.
He is again emphasising the importance of urgent progress in the political transition. The political situation in Haiti remains volatile, with a recent switch in prime ministers initiated by the Transitional Presidential Council.
