Revisiting Postales and Finca del Nunca Jamas

Celebrating 100 stories by a Jamaican in Argentina

A Jamaican in Argentina, now marking its 100th column for Thursday Food, began its journey in June 2022 with an intimate look at the Uco Valley’s Postales Boutique Hotel and its neighbouring Finca del Nunca Jamás. Revisiting this agroecological haven in 2024 has revealed a story of growth and innovation that is woven seamlessly into its timeless charm. In the wake of the pandemic, the world sought solace and Mendoza’s serene vineyards were a perfect refuge for many Argentines. Postales, nestled amidst Uco Valley’s dramatic Andes backdrop, welcomed guests with intimate hospitality, its boutique appeal of less than 15 rooms paired perfectly with the vibrant roses that flanked its vineyards. Finca del Nunca Jamás offered visitors a unique experience of winemaking, where the terroir shone through wines like their Malbec and Pedro Ximenez.

Back then, It was a time to savour the tranquil synergy of wine, nature, and simple luxury. The boutique’s organic gardens supplied the hotel kitchen, crafting meals paired with award-winning wines like their Capítulo I Malbec, a tribute to the valley’s terroir. Guests left inspired, the rhythm of the vines echoing a collective longing for balance and continuity. Fast forward to today, and Finca del Nunca Jamás has embraced bold new horizons. A state-of-the-art fermentation room now graces the property, reflecting a strategic expansion to meet increasing demand. Their commitment to sustainability, agroecology, and innovation stands out in the highly competitive Uco Valley.

One highlight of the winery’s evolution is the launch of Etcetera Limited Edition, a line of wines crafted from their agroecological vineyards, that capture the essence of innovation while paying homage to the land. In tandem with its winemaking expansion, Postales has elevated its culinary offerings with refined menus that celebrate the Uco Valley’s bounty. From heirloom vegetables grown onsite to locally sourced beef prepared with Argentine flair, each dish tells a story of connection to the land. Guests can enjoy curated wine pairings featuring both the signature Capítulo I line and the new Etcetera Limited Edition wines, ensuring a feast for the senses. The introduction of a tasting menu spotlighting Finca del Nunca Jamás’ experimental varietals has further cemented its place as a destination for oenophiles.

As the sun sets behind the Andes, Postales Boutique Hotel and Finca del Nunca Jamás remain symbols of hope and renewal. For those seeking more than a visit, for those yearning for a story intertwined with the rhythms of nature and the artistry of winemaking, this is a place to return, again and again.

Thursday Food explores the Limited Edition Etcetera line of wines available at Postales Boutique Hotel and produced by Finca del Nunca Jamás from grapes grown at their Uco Valley vineyards:

Etcetera Chardonnay is a 90 point, 100 per cent varietal that is greenish yellow in colour. On the nose it has notes of pineapple, white peach and citrus, while on the palate it is a fresh, round wine.

Etcetera Pinot Noir is a bright ruby red colour, made from 100 per cent Pinot Noir grapes that offers aromas of cherries, strawberries and blueberries. In the mouth it is very pleasant and velvety, as well as being very fruity,

Etcetera Pedro Ximenez has a soft yellow colour with steely and greenish tones. Produced from 100 per cent Pedro Ximenez grapes, it expresses citrus notes, such as grapefruit, on the nose while on the palate, its freshness is distinguished.

Etcetera Naranjo is an orange wine of medium colour with bright tones that comprises Pedro Ximenez and Chardonnay grapes. It has high intensity aromas and in the mouth it is complex with an interesting freshness.

Etcetera Malbec Rose is a 100 per cent varietal with a bright onion skin colour. It exhibits sweet aromas of raspberries on the nose and its palate is refreshing and pleasant.

As I pen my 100th article, as a Jamaican living in Argentina, I’m reminded of why Mendoza’s Uco Valley captured my heart, not just because of the outstanding wines or the breathtaking views but rather the spirit of resilience, transformation and innovation. Postales and Finca del Nunca Jamás stand as a testament to what’s possible when passion meets purpose with an essence that is a devotion to authenticity, nature, and the simple joys of life. Salud!
