Tessanne Chin drops new single for Christmas
Voice Box Christmas production to feature guest performers
The Voice 2013 winner Tessanne Chin has released her latest single just in time for the Yuletide.
The song, Christmas Is Better With You, which was co-written by Giomar Mitchell and Olaf Blackwood, was released independently on December 3.
In an interview with the Jamaica Observer’s Splash on Friday, Chin gave an insight into the inspiration behind the song as well as the forthcoming Christmas production by her Voice Box Performing Arts Ensemble.
“I think that since becoming a mom Christmas has taken a completely different meaning. I love the fact that this particular song is not just about any one person or one thing in particular. I feel that way when my mom is home,” said Chin.
She continued: “You know we have our two daughters, and we can see it through their eyes, so for somebody else it may be that they’ve met the love of their life or a special person has come home — a parent, a brother, a sister, or family member. Its just that sentiment that that person is the gift.”
Giomar Mitchell, son of recording artiste Wayne “Wayne Marshall” Mitchell, who also happens to be Tessanne’s step-nephew, produced Christmas Is Better With You.
“Working with Giomar I am constantly amazed by what an incredible young man he is, in terms of just his person. He’s a great guy. I was blown away by how he took control of the live sesson; this is a live track. And he worked with some of the greats like Paul Kastick, bassist Michael Fletcher, and Mr Dean Fraser, and he also went on to produce the vocals for the song. I’m a very proud auntie and a very happy artiste,” Chin shared.
She said Blackwood, who is a close friend of hers, contributed to the song’s lyrical content.
“Olaf has been one of my dearest friends for a very long time. He’s also one of my favourite people that I go to, to write. It was just wonderful to have the experience of writing this song with him and Giomar,” said Chin.
On Sunday, December 15 at Karl Hendrickson Auditorium at Jamaica College, Chin’s performing arts ensemble Voice Box will stage its second annual Christmas production.
The production, which is called Our Christmas Wish, will feature guest performers, including gospel singer Kevin Downswell and Sevana.
“The kids are working incredibly hard; they’re so talented and we’re proud of them and we cant wait to share what they’ve been working on with the public. We’re also grateful to the incredible artistes who have agreed to come on board this year — Kevin Downswell and Sevana — and we’re looking forward to a great show,” Chin disclosed.
Asked what patrons can expect from the production, Chin said: “You can expect just a wonderful welcome into the Christmas season. Last year we had such a wonderful audience, and it was such an incredible vibe, and we’re hoping for the same this year. Our show is going to be mixed with a little bit of everything. So there’s going to be song and dance, drama, songs from popular movies and not just Christmas songs.”
