Supremasi continues to impress with Mayberry Gold Trophy win
Three-year-old bay colt Supremasi continued his upward trajectory with a convincing victory in the $1.5-million Mayberry Gold Trophy on Saturday, December 7, 2024.
The Restricted Stakes contest was held over 7 furlongs (1,400m) at Caymanas Park, and
Supremasi emerged as the clear winner, crossing the finish line a length and a half ahead of the field in a time of 1:26.2 (24.1 x 48.0 x 1:12.4).
Trained by Anthony ‘’Baba’’ Nunes and ridden by Tevin ‘’Terrific’’ Foster, Supremasi demonstrated his growing maturity and ability, notching his third win from eight starts. This impressive performance solidifies Supremasi as a noteworthy runner on the Jamaican racing scene.
The race began with Supremasi breaking well into fourth position behind Mack and Rome (Dick Cardenas), Hotbred Scammer (Devon A Thomas), and Fearless Force (Raddesh Roman). Supremasi maintained his gallop well down the backstretch, waiting for the perfect moment to make his move.
As the field approached the half-mile (800m) turn, Supremasi slipped down into second position behind Mack and Rome. However, this was only a temporary setback, as Supremasi came off the turn on the outside of Mack and Rome and surged to the front at the furlong-and-a-half pole (300m).
Despite losing his right foot irons in the closing stages of the race, Foster managed to maintain control of Supremasi, who crossed the finish line a length and a half ahead of the field in a time of 1:26.2 (24.1 x 48.0 x 1:12.4). Blu Sensation (Oneil Mullings) finished second, with Mack and Rome (Dick Cardenas) taking third place.
