2024, the year of love!

Wedding bells to ring out for five entertainers who popped the question this year

With all of five engagements having been established in 2024, it’s safe to say this was the year of romance in the entertainment space. Entertainers who once upon a time described themselves as ‘gyallis’ were seemingly struck by Cupid’s arrow and are now proudly wearing the “one-burner” label.

We got teary-eyed watching a few of the proposal videos as some of these love stories tugged at our heart strings. Dancehall artistes bending the knee to profess their eternal love for their significant others was something we loved to see. Here are a few of the entertainers who made that first leap into the world of marriage and commitment. Here’s to hearing wedding bells ringing out in 2025!

Vybz Kartel: Like a comet, Vybz Kartel re-entered society as a man on a mission. After 13 years of incarceration, armed with a new lease on life, the entertainer said he was ready to walk in his newfound purpose. The love for his family was quickly established as videos of his reunion with his children saturated the media. But not only did the entertainer get the chance to re-enter his children’s lives, but he also got to fully embrace a new love, one ignited while he was still behind bars. He returned home to his then-girlfriend Sidem Öztürk and before long, the Worl’ Boss popped the question. The pair announced their engagement on November 5.

Beenie Man: In his popular 90s hit single, Old Dog, Beenie Man proudly embraced polygamy declaring that as a “wild one”, he has to “have dem inna twos and threes” and although he has had his fair share of romantic relationships, the entertainer has shown (at least once before) that he is not afraid of the commitment of marriage. After tying the knot with dancehall artiste D’Angel in 2006, Beenie Man is again looking to walk down the aisle after announcing his engagement at the start of 2024. Declaring in a post in January that after 23 years he finally found ‘the one,’ Beenie Man made public his engagement to long-time girlfriend Camille Lee.

Businesswoman Camille Lee was by her partner Beenie Man’s side to celebrate his Order of Distinction in the rank of Officer for contribution to the development of Jamaican music (dancehall).Garfield Robinson

Teejay: Dancehall artiste Teejay proposed to his long-time girlfriend, Tionna, in February. Taking to Instagram Live to show off the huge rock he placed on his beloved’s finger, Teejay revealed he popped the question during his fiancé’s birthday celebrations in Mexico. While the entertainer did not go the traditional kneeling route to ask his girl to be his wife, the proposal wasn’t any less romantic as the deejay seemingly called on the assistance of the restaurant staff to pull off the surprise moment. Holding out a black box with the diamond ring inside, Teejay had staff write the all-important question in chocolate as they served dessert. Safe to say, Tionna was sweetly surprised.

Nesbeth: To say reggae singer Nesbeth was completely distraught following the passing of his life partner in 2016 would be a gross understatement. Jamaica grieved with the My Dream singer as he publicly mourned the untimely passing of his wife, Annmarie Elliot-Nesbeth. Since her passing, the singer kept his love life private until very recently when he announced his girlfriend, Tasha, to the world. In a post made to his Instagram page on November 30, Nesbeth revealed wedding bells would ring for him again, as he asked Tasha to be his wife.

“I’ve given this a lot of thought, and I genuinely believe that you deserve this engagement ring on your birthday. I’m overjoyed that you said yes! Together, we’ll work to bring out the best in each other,” his heartfelt post highlighting the special moment read.

Romeich: Event promoter and artiste manager Romeich Major announced in July that he asked for the hand of his long-time girlfriend Shacqueal Witter.

The couple, who have been publicly dating since 2022, made the announcement in a post on Instagram showcasing snippets from the special moment. Tears of joy flowed from Witter’s eyes as she was escorted down an aisle of pink roses by the love of her life. Major, who went all-out for the occasion, then got down on one knee and professed his love before placing the ring on her finger.
