Split Pea Soup topped with Crispy Cubed Arosa Ham

Give your loved ones the gift of comfort this holiday season with Delect Split Pea Soup topped with crispy cubed Arosa ham. With a delicious blend of vegetables, creamy Delect Coconut Milk, buttery croutons and Arosa’s Premium Christmas Ham, made crispy, this dish is the perfect introduction to your Christmas dinner that will surely have your guests wanting more!

 

Total Time: 1 hour & 30 minutes

 

Ingredients

1/4 cup unsalted butter

2 cups chopped onion

1 cup diced carrot

1 cup diced celery

1/4 to 1 tsp Kosher salt, to taste

1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper, plus additional to taste

4 cloves garlic, minced

1 pound dried split peas, rinsed and sorted

1 meaty Arosa ham bone

1 large bay leaf (or 2 small ones)

2 teaspoons fresh thyme leaves, chopped

8 ounces of Delect Coconut Milk

6 cups chicken stock

2 cups water

1 cup diced Arosa ham (1/4-inch dice)

Buttery garlic croutons, for serving

 

Method

1. Add butter and diced onion, celery, and carrots to a stock pot on medium heat, stirring until fragrant and tender.

2. Add garlic and peas (which were previously soaked for an hour and drained), bay leaves, ham bone or ham hock and fresh thyme to the stock pot.

3. Pour chicken stock and water and simmer for up to an hour.

4. Remove bay leaves and ham bone or ham hocks

5. Add 8 ounces of Delect Coconut Milk.

6. Add salt and pepper to taste.

7. Add crispy cubed ham and croutons at the end.

 

Arosa Ham & Arugula Salad with a Delect Spicy Sorrel Vinaigrette

Switch up your holiday menu this season with our Arosa Ham and Arugula Salad. Packed with the fresh flavours of arugula, lettuce and apples, buttery croutons – toasted to perfection – sweet red onions, creamy goat cheese, nuts of your choice and juicy Arosa Premium Ham, dressed with a Delect Spicy Sorrel Vinaigrette, this salad combines familiar Jamaican holiday flavours in a renewed way that tastes just as good as it looks, and is good for you too!

 

Total Time: 30 minutes

 

Ingredients – Salad & Vinaigrette

● 4 cups arugula

● 2 cups romaine lettuce

 

● 2 cups iceberg lettuce

● 1 cup thinly sliced Arosa Ham

● 1 Granny Smith apple thinly sliced

● 1/4 cup thinly sliced red onions

● Goat cheese

● Sliced almonds or walnuts (optional)

● Buttery garlic croutons, for serving

 

Spicy Delect Sorrel Vinaigrette

● 1/4 cup red wine vinegar

● 2 tsp water

● 3/4 Delect Cooking Oil

● 1/2 tsp Delect Salt

● 1/4 tsp Spicy Hill Farms Scotch Bonnet Pepper Powder

● 1/2 tsp Garlic Powder

● 3 tbsp Delect Sorrel Cordial

 

Method

1. For the Spicy Delect Sorrel Vinaigrette

a. Add all ingredients to a jar.

b. Shake well until homogenous.

2. Wash and dry arugula, and lettuce, then assemble the salad with apples, almonds (or another nut of your choice), red onion, ham slices and goat cheese.

 

3. Top with buttery croutons and a generous amount of your Spicy Delect Sorrel Vinaigrette

4. Toss until combined and serve!

To boiling water, add soaked split peas, ham bone, and ham hock, as well as the other ingredients, and bring to a steady simmer for an hour.Courtesy of Delect
