JCF cracks down on officer dress code and grooming standards
KINGSTON, Jamaica – The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) is reinforcing its dress code policy, which outlines approved attire for officers, prohibits excessive jewellery, and bans certain hairstyles and hair colours.
Observer Online understands that area, branch, and force commanders are being tasked with ensuring compliance, with new rules addressing nail and eyelash extensions.
– In Uniform –
Officers on duty must be easily identifiable, with patches, including the Jamaica flag, JCF insignia, and “POLICE” markings, clearly displayed. Badge numbers and name tags are to be worn on the right front of their clothing for visibility to civilians, while ranks must be displayed on the shoulders.

Outside of operational and cell duties, district constables may wear the rural police crest along with patches identifying them as D/C.
Uniforms must adhere to the approved designs set by internal police protocols, with alterations prohibited from significantly changing the uniform’s style.
These rules apply at all times unless officers are undercover. Undercover and plainclothes officers are still expected to wear professional attire, with women in business suits and men in shirts and ties.
– Personal Appearance –
Buns remain one of the standard hairstyle for female officers, and all hairstyles must not extend past the nape of the neck and must be tucked behind the ears.
Male officers’ hair and beards must be neatly trimmed, and all hair must match the officer’s natural colour.
Jewelry is restricted to a watch, two rings (one of which must be a wedding band), and small earrings for women.
Necklaces, bracelets, anklets, facial or visible piercings, and tattoos are strictly prohibited in uniform.
Plainclothes officers are permitted some flexibility, allowing necklaces and bracelets.
The rules also extend to nail and eyelash extensions, which must adhere to strict guidelines. Nails should be short, and stiletto-shaped nails are banned, along with bold, bright, or neon colours and excessive decorations.
Eyelash extensions must match the length and thickness of natural lashes.
