From Wall Street to Mayberry: Patrick Bataille’s leadership journey

PATRICK Bataille’s journey to becoming CEO of Mayberry Investments Limited is one of innovation, resilience, and visionary leadership. Spanning nearly three decades, his professional achievements reflect his adaptability to evolving markets, commitment to growth, and dedication to fostering a culture of accountability and excellence.

Bataille’s career began in 1995, at the close of a dynamic and transformative era in investment banking. At Pershing, part of Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette, he honed his expertise in retirement products and post-trade operations. He later joined TD Waterhouse, where he played a pivotal role in post-merger & acquisition integration, and expanded the institutional business in the United States Southeast, growing assets under management from $800 million to $1.2 billion.

At Citi, Bataille progressed from analyst to senior product manager in the markets & securities services division. As a key member of the leadership team, he played a crucial role in the $1.4-billion acquisition of BISYS Group, integrated HSBC’s agency lending business, and spearheaded initiatives that improved profitability by $40 million. His innovative solutions for the North America public sector business secured a $16-billion marquee client and solidified his reputation as a strategic leader.

Extensive experience in operational efficiencies further enriched his skill set during his tenure at PwC, where he spearheaded a $200-million performance improvement initiative for financial institutions. Later, at BNY Mellon, he was part of the senior leadership team, as senior director and head of digital & experience for securities services. His accomplishments included closing a $1.2-trillion assets under custody deal, incubating and launching a projected $1-billion digital business, and generating $165 million in recovered revenue through revenue retention.

With a leadership philosophy grounded in transformational, visionary, and strategic approaches, Bataille emphasises adaptability, collaboration, and accountability.

“Leadership is about adapting to circumstances, inspiring a shared vision, and driving strategic growth while remaining resilient in the face of change,” he explained.

He encourages his leadership team to adopt an “owner’s mentality”, running their departments as independent businesses. This mindset drives innovation, operational efficiency, and a unified client experience while empowering team members to take full accountability for their areas of responsibility.

Mentorship and inspiration from leaders like Atul Dubey, Rod Hardamon, Bob Wallace, Michael McGovern, and Denise Littlejohn have significantly shaped his approach to leadership. Influencers such as Raymond McGuire, Jamie Dimon, and Tidjane Thiam have also left an indelible mark, reinforcing the values of foresight, resilience, and strategic thinking.

“I strive to lead with purpose, aligning Mayberry’s strategic goals with innovation, accountability, and a collaborative culture that empowers my team to achieve excellence,” he shares.

Now at the helm of Mayberry Investments Limited, Bataille is focused on guiding the organisation through a transformative era. Strategic growth, operational efficiency, and client-centric innovation are at the core of his leadership approach, positioning Mayberry as a trusted leader in the financial industry.

By integrating lessons from mentors and career influencers, he fosters a culture of innovation and accountability while supporting the professional development of his team. Under his leadership, Mayberry is poised for a future defined by impactful change, collaborative success, and enduring growth as a forward-thinking financial powerhouse.

Patrick Bataille, CEO Mayberry Investments, speaks with Rachel Kirlew, AVP Mayberry Investments.
