Zimi Seh Brunch was scrumptious

Scores of patrons descended upon the lawns of Caymanas Park last Sunday to enjoy the musical ecstasy at the Zimi Seh Brunch.

But while several patrons munched on delicious fare, including shrimp, fried rice, escoveitch fish, fried chicken, pasta, and more, others seized photo ops and feted.

The musical artistry was accelerated thanks to the sharp skills of Nico Lee, Chromatic, Franco and Fyahman, Tonio and Carlos A-Team.

Patrons grooved and danced to several popular songs drawn from genres such as pop, alternative, adult contemporary, hip hop, R&B, and later on, Afrobeats, dancehall and reggae.

The attendees ran the range of local personalities, celebrities, business sector magnates, and members of the entertainment fraternity.

Skillibeng, RajahWild, Najeeriii, Shawn Antoine, Roze Don, events promotion teams Portmore Society and Dream Entertainment’s PJ Wright were among several faces that were spotted.

It was dance floor magic, hearing the sounds of Jason Derulo’s In My Head, Nico and Vinz with their hit single Am I Wrong, Taio Cruz’s Break Your Heart, Sean Kingston’s
Eenie Meenie, Close to Me by Ellie Goulding, Drogba (Joanna) by Afro B, Essence by Wizkid and Tems, and Wrecking Ball by Miley Cyrus.

When the dancehall hits began to pour, patrons got busy to Vybz Kartel’s CT Scan, Holiday by Ding Dong, Drink and Rave by Konshens, Ova Dweet by Popcaan, Hope and Pray by Mavado, Higher Level by Elephant Man, and Wine and Kotch by J Capri and Charly Black.

Former Miss Universe Jamaica titleholder Miqueal-Symone Williams was among those in attendance.

“It’s my first time coming to this event and it’s really good. I have a high expectation of the Zimi team and they never disappoint,” said Williams.

Marketing Manager at Sunshine Snacks Shantell Hill-Afonso also gave the event the thumbs up.

“I decided that, for my new year, I am going to do things that I haven’t done before. I’ve always seen the whole Zimi events, and I’m a foodie, so why not start here with some good food. I just want to enjoy Portmore, it’s my first event here,” Hill-Afonso shared.

Kerri-Ann Greenwood, the reigning Miss Universe Jamaica East (2024) told the Jamaica Observer she’s a frequent patron at Zimi-hosted events.

“I’m always at a Zimi event. I’m fully themed out, as you can see, and I’m also excited to see everyone’s concept of the theme. Oh, my God, I cant wait to get to the food court,” Greenwood said before heading off with her friends.

Ann-Marie Vickers, a first- timer to the event and a visitor from Canada, said she has long wanted to see what it was all about.

“Well, I’ve always heard about this event and I wanted to experience what it brings, the excitement and the amenities such as the food and drinks. So far, it has been good, and I’m just here to experience it all,” she said.

Late last year, the organisers of Zimi Seh Brunch entered into a partnership with Supreme Ventures Limited for the staging of the event.

Solomon Sharpe, executive chairman of Supreme Ventures Racing and Entertainment Limited (SVREL), speaking to the Observer, said: “This partnership is really about two key things — breathing fresh life into Caymanas Park by getting younger folks excited about horse racing, and putting Caymanas Park on the map as a go-to spot for entertainment events… We kicked things off with a bang at the Mouttet Mile… [and] the Zimi team [then] created an amazing deck experience that really showed what our venue can do. It was fantastic to see hundreds of young partygoers getting their first taste of live horse racing, and you could feel the energy in the air as these two worlds came together.”

He described the Zimi Seh Brunch set-up as “next level”, adding “It’s been incredible to see how the Zimi team has worked their magic, transforming our space while keeping all the signature premium touches that make their events so special…. We’re already looking forward to what we can create together next…”

Pierre Beckford, sponsorship and execution manager for Zimi Entertainment, said he was pleased with the overall execution of the event.

“It was an awesome event; everything was just wonderful… There were so many highlights of the party. Chromatic’s set would be the high point of the night, they teased a performance from Vybz Kartel, that people thought he was there. The high energy of their set was a high point,” said Beckford, who hinted that a staging of Zimi Seh Brunch is scheduled to be held in New York over the US Memorial Day weekend.

Assistant brand manager for Smirnoff and Casamigos Lasana Wilson was happy with the way the event unfolded.

“Today, Smirnoff is activating in a premium space. On entry, we had pineapple cocktails for our patrons, so they can really enjoy our Smirnoff mixes and the versatility of the brand. Smirnoff is the brand for the young, hot and hype and if you look around the crowd, you can see for yourself,” said Wilson.

Nadine Hylton, senior brand manager for Smirnoff and Casamigos, said the partnership with Zimi Entertainment aligns the brand with its target demographic.

“The Zimi patrons are big on tequilas, and so we had to get Casamigos involved. Today marks one of many Zimi events for us, this relationship started three years ago with Smirnoff, and the other brands have now come on board. We really get to engage patrons in what they like to have,” said Hylton.
