Kingston College Centenary 5K Run/Walk set for January 19

In celebration of Kingston College’s 100th anniversary, Running Events Jamaica will host the inaugural Kingston College Centenary 5K Run/Walk on Sunday, January 19, to contribute to the development of the alumni of company founder Alfred “Frano” Francis. The event is scheduled to begin at 7:00 am at Emancipation Park, New Kingston.

“Proceeds will assist in enhancing Kington College’s educational and sporting programmes, which have positively impacted the lives of countless students, such as myself. Our main goal is to unite past students, supporters, and the wider Jamaican community in celebrating the 100th anniversary of the institution which provided the foundation for my personal development,” said Francis.

“We are honoured to stage the KC Centenary 5K Run & Walk as a way to give back to Kingston College, an institution that has profoundly shaped students’ values of athleticism and philanthropy — principles that are at the heart of Running Events Jamaica and myself as the founder of the organisation. Having benefited from the noble intentions of this esteemed institution, I — and team members — feel it is our obligation and privilege to contribute our skills to honour this celebration,” he continued.

Race registration is now open to all individuals and teams such as corporations, fraternities, church groups, and families. The contribution is $2,500 per person for individuals and teams. The package will include a T-shirt and a medal on crossing the finish line. Registration closes on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, after which no entry will be accepted. Additionally, switching of race events will not be allowed once registration has closed and entries are neither refundable nor transferable, while name changes will not be permitted.

Francis said he expected the Kingston College track team to be challenged by other school representatives who would seek to outrun the host institution’s team to win the Champion Team (Run Only) Trophy.

Among the other awards will be the 5K Run: Overall Male and Female 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places, and the 5K Walk: Overall Male and Female 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places. In addition, there will be a trophy for the members of the largest participating team.

Kingston College Centenary 5K Run/Walk will begin on Oxford Road, then move left onto Belmont Road, left onto Trafalgar Road, left onto Knutsford Boulevard, right onto Trinidad Terrace, right onto Grenada Crescent, left onto Knutsford Boulevard, left onto Trafalgar Road, left onto Ruthven Road, left onto Half-Way-Tree Road and left onto Oxford Road for the finish line at Emancipation Park.
