WATCH: Strong support for Steve McGregor as MP aspirant in Kingston Central
KINGSTON, Jamaica — People’s National Party (PNP) supporters in Kingston Central turned out at the party’s office on North Avenue in droves on Wednesday evening to declare their backing for retired crime fighter, Steve McGregor as the party’s Member of Parliament (MP) aspirant for the next General Elections.
At a massive gathering Wednesday night, Opposition Leader and President of the PNP, Mark Golding officially presented McGregor to the people of Kingston Central as the party’s pick to contest the next General Election which is due this year.
Joining the supporters chanting “we believe in Steve” were top brass members of the PNP.
Addressing the supporters, the president said it brought him great pleasure to present to the people, “a man of quality, power, vision, commitment and integrity, a man you deserve to serve you well”.
“I bring to you, your candidate in the next General Election for the great constituency of Kingston Central, the constituency of Ralph Brown, the constituency of Michael Joshua Manley, the constituency of Ronnie Thwaites and many others. I am here to bring to you tonight your victory candidate for the next General Election, comrade Steve McGregor,” Golding said.
As a senior superintendent of police, McGregor served the Kingston Central Police Division as the commanding officer in 2010.
According to Kingston Central resident, Terry Ann Stewart, McGregor is the right man to lead the people of Kingston Central.
“Mr McGregor is a man who supported the communities in Kingston Central before he became MP candidate. He allowed us to keep parties in Kingston Central. He gave away $1.5 million. He gave away school shoes, he paid people’s school fees, he paid my daughter’s school fee and he is willing to buy groceries.
“Anything we ask him for he is willing to give it. I am not supporting him just because of that. I am supporting my party because I want Mark Golding to become prime minister for Jamaica. We are tired of the 28 bank accounts, we tired of the corruption and we are tired of everything involving the current government. We have made the right choice in Comrade McGregor. The whole central is out for Steve McGregor. We say Steve McGregor will bring victory for the People’s National Party,” Stewart said.
