KINGSTON, Jamaica – Jaheim Stern tied the US National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) lead in the men’s 60m hurdles after he ran a personal best and venue record 7.64 seconds to win the event at Friday’s Louisiana State University (LSU) Baton Rouge Purple Tiger indoor meet at Maddox Field House in Baton Rouge.

The former Jamaica College athlete, who transferred from Hampton University, lowered his previous best of 7.71 seconds which he ran in February last year.

His time was the third best in the world so far, fifth best ever by a LSU athlete, as he also lowered the venue record of 7.67 seconds set in 2011.

There was also a win for Machaeda Linton, also of LSU, who produced two new life time bests in the women’s long jump and 60m dash.

Linton, who transferred from William Carey College, won the long jump with 6.42m, ninth best on the LSU all-time list and bettering her previous best of 6.35m. She was second in the 60m dash with 7.35 seconds, bettering her previous best of 7.41 seconds.

Kimola Hines of the University of Louisiana was second in the women’s weight throw with a personal best 17.50m, the fourth best ever for the ‘Rajin Cajuns’, beating her previous best of 15.50m set last year, by two metres.

Two former Jamaica College throwers, Donroy Brown and Josh-Ty Brown, both at Southeastern University, were second and fourth respectively in the men’s shot put.

Donroy threw 16.47m and Josh-Ty Brown threw 15.82m while Kay-Legay Clarke of the University of Louisiana was fourth in the women’s triple jump with a best of 11.85m.

Kimeone McLeod of Louisiana Tech was third in the women’s 60m hurdles in 8.55 seconds while Clarke of the University of Louisiana was fifth with 8.73 seconds.
Former Herbert Morrison Technical runner Mark Daley of the University of Louisiana, ran 6.86 seconds for fourth place in the men’s 60m final.

Soyinne Grenyion, formerly of Mt Alvernia High and Indiana Tech was second in the women’s 600m in 1:36.05 seconds.

At the Arkansas Invitational, Nia Robinson of the University of Arkansas was second in the women’s long jump with 6.39m and Aaliyah Foster of the University of Texas was third with 6.21m.

Safhia Hinds of Kansas State University won the women’s 400m with a personal best 54.90 seconds at the University of Kansas-Kansas State- Wichita State meet at Kansas State.

Richelle Stanley of the University of Kansas was third in the women’s long jump with 5.85m while Jhavour Bennett of Kansas State was second in the triple jump with 14.61m and fifth in the long jump with 6.84m.
