Shaheem Gordon gets first win as Let Him Fly soars
Apprentice jockey Shaheem Gordon celebrated his first win on Saturday, January 18, 2025, aboard Lennis Shim-conditioned Let Him Fly in the third event of the nine-race card at Caymanas Park.
Let Him Fly dominated the three-year-old and upward Optional Claiming ($$500,000-$400,000) race, leaving rivals in the dust as he crossed the finish line 5 ¼ lengths ahead of the pack.
The eight-year-old bay gelding, sired by Western Classic out of Little Thunder, made a bold move to take the lead and never looked back, stopping the clock in 1:35.4 (24.3 x 48.0 x 1:16.0 x 1:31.0) over the 7 ½-furlong (1,500m) distance.
Let Him Fly burst out of the starting gates, quickly taking the lead ahead of Maya (Ismael Velasquez),
Casual Peach (Demer Williams), and XY Soul (Roger Hewitt). As the field approached the 6-furlong (1,200m) marker, Let Him Fly began to pull away, leaving his rivals struggling to keep pace.
By the half-mile turn, it was clear that Let Him Fly was the horse to beat, and he continued to blaze the trail, eventually crossing the finish line ahead of Casual Peach and Maya.
