Mandeville welcomes Born to Shine talent show

Shows such as Digicel Rising Star and Magnum King and Queen of the Dancehall have been unearthing talents in Jamaica.

Born to Shine Talent Search and Party is the latest, and it kicked off last evening, January 24, at 8:00 pm at 6 Caledonia Avenue in Mandeville.

Extensive promotion surrounding the talent show has seen an influx of entrants from various categories, including singing, deejaying, and dance, all looking forward to getting their chance in the spotlight.

The event series, which will also see live performances and cultural celebrations, is the brainchild of Texroy Elliott, CEO of Born to Shine Limited.

Commenting on the talent show, he said it is designed to uncover and celebrate Jamaica’s rich talent pool.

“This is my way of giving back to the community and creating opportunities for aspiring artistes. We are not just hosting an event, we are starting a movement that celebrates Jamaican culture and creativity,” he shared.

Dynamic duo Hype Type and ZJ Sparks were billed to be the show hosts, complemented by a stellar panel including reggae legend Bounty Killer, alongside DJ Mac and Steel Chest.

In addition to the talent competition, the audience can enjoy entertaining live performances from artistes such as Kraff and X-Kappe, with more surprise acts to keep the energy soaring.

Born to Shine roadshow has been creating a buzz throughout Mandeville and its neighbouring areas, connecting with communities as it builded up to the big day.

According to Elliott, the town was hungry for this kind of entertainment, as the feedback his team has been receiving shows it is more than welcomed.

“I am looking forward to the unveiling of the talents that have already signed up, and there are more exciting plans to unveil,” he said.

Expounding on the event, Elliott said it is more than a talent show — describing it as a “movement to create lasting opportunities and uplift communities”.

“We envision Born to Shine Talent Search becoming a yearly tradition, reaching new heights and impacting lives while showcasing Jamaica’s unmatched talent to the world,” he noted, stating his long-term vision for the talent search.

With ambitious plans to expand its cultural footprint, Born to Shine aims to become a cornerstone of Jamaica’s entertainment landscape, inspiring future generations of performers.

Among the sponsors for Born to Shine are Rum Bar White Overproof Rum, Beonea Communication Services, Party City, New York Entertainment Movement, Irie FM, ZIP FM, Golf View Hotel, and Richie B Radio.

The competition is geared for entrants 18 years and older.
