Deitz demands more consistency from Windies Women at World Cup qualifiers
BASSETERRE, St Kitts (CMC) — With the West Indies Women set to play in the upcoming ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup Qualifiers, their Head Coach Shane Deitz has called for more consistency from his players.
The West Indies Women comprehensively defeated Bangladesh by eight wickets in the third and final One-Day International (ODI) at Warner Park on Friday, denying Bangladesh an automatic spot in the Women’s Cricket World Cup scheduled to be held in India in August.
The regional side will now join Bangladesh, Pakistan, Ireland, Scotland, and Thailand in the qualifiers for a spot at the World Cup.
Deitz said they could ill afford any off days in the qualifiers.
“I think we just have to play good quality, consistent cricket for longer periods of time.
“In the qualifiers you can’t afford that one bad day, so we have to be more consistent, more disciplined for the whole qualifiers,” Deitz maintained.
“Our goal is to win every game, so the qualification process will take care of itself, but we have to be consistent for 100 overs of each day of each game.”
The head coach said he was pleased with the team’s overall performance in the three-match ODI series, and it would give the side some momentum heading into their three-match T20 series which starts next week.
“A good win today, players played pretty good for most of the games. Obviously in the second game we didn’t perform as we wanted to with the bat.
“We’re a bit disappointed that we didn’t win 3-0, but a 2-1 series win is good, and we take a bit of a momentum into the T20 series, so we’re looking forward to those next week,” Deitz said.
