NCAA wins for Kimar Farquharson, Ralford Mullings

KINGSTON, Jamaica – Middle distance runner Kimar Farquharson of Texas A&M University and thrower Ralford Mullings of the University of Oklahoma were winners in their respective events at NCAA indoor meets last weekend.

Farquharson won the men’s 800m at the Ted Nelson Invitational hosted by Texas A&M, running 1:48.73 seconds as the former Kingston College representative Giovouni Henry of Texas Christian University was fourth in 1:50.87 seconds and his twin brother Gianni, also of TCU, was fifth in a season’s best 1:51.52 seconds.

Jerome Campbell of Northern Colorado University was second in the men’s 60m hurdles in a season’s best and Big Sky Conference-leading 7.60 seconds.

Dejanae Oakley of the University of Georgia was third in the women’s 400m in 53.30 seconds with Shadae Findley of the University of Texas-San Antonio sixth in 54.10 seconds.

At the Red Raider Invite at Texas Tech University, Mullings won the men’s shot put, throwing 19.68m while Shaiquan Dunn of the University of Southern California threw 17.77m.

Former Mt Alvernia High runner Carleta Bernard of the University of Texas had two indoor personal bests in the 60m and 200m at the Dr Martin Luther King Jr Invitational held at the New Mexico Conference Centre.

Bernard was second in the Women’s 200m Invitational in 23.27 seconds and then clocked 7.33 seconds to lead the preliminaries of the women’s 60m before placing third in the final in 7.34 seconds.

Her high school and college teammate Aaliyah Foster equalled her indoor best 6.46m while placing second in the women’s long jump.

Antonio Forbes of Western Texas College was sixth in the men’s 400m running 49.38 seconds.

Oneka Wilson of Clemson University equalled her season-best 8.13 seconds as she placed second in the women’s 60m hurdles at the Orange and Purple Invitational hosted by Clemson.

Shantae Foreman of Clemson was fourth in the women’s long jump with 5.90m; Adrienne Adams of Auburn University was fourth in the women’s weight throw with 19.01m and Tafada Wright of Mississippi State was sixth with 18.35m.

Wright was also eighth in the women’s shot put with a season’s best 13.44m.

Trevor Gunzel of the University of Alabama was fourth in the men’s shot put with 18.09m, just ahead of his teammate Christopher Young who threw 17.79m and Shakiel Dacres of East Carolina was 12th with 15.50m.

Former Cornwall College Champs finalist KeSean Rhoomes of Morgan State University had two indoor personal bests marks at the UMass Lowell River Hawk Invitational, held at The Track at New Balance, Boston.

He cleared 1.96m for seventh in the men’s high jump, which places him fourth in the Mid-Eastern Athletics Conference (MEAC) and was also second in the triple jump with 14.18m, 10th best in MEAC so far.
