Covers of songs from the catalogue of the late reggae icon Bob Marley decorate the 10-track various artistes set, Bob Marley: One Love – Music Inspired by the Film (Deluxe) – Various artistes, which on Sunday won the Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album.

The project, which was released via Island Records last February, beat albums such as Evolution by The Wailers, Never Gets Late Here by Shenseea, Take it Easy by Collie Buddz, and Party With Me by Vybz Kartel to take music’s highest honour.

A representative of Island Records, whose name the Jamaica Observer was unable to ascertain up to press time, accepted the award during the handover ceremony which was held at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.

“Wow, thank you! Thanks to all the artistes, the producers, and everyone at Island Records who brought this together. At the end of the day, it’s all in tribute to really the greatest of all time, Bob Marley,” said the representative.

Among the interpretations nd arrangements of Marley’s songs which are featured on the project are
Natural Mystic by Bloody Civilian, Exodus by Skip Marley, Waiting in Vain by Daniel Caesar,
Three Little Birds by Kacey Mulgraves, One Love by Wizkid, Is This Love by Jesse Reyez, Redemption Song by Leon Bridges, Rasta Reggae by Puerto Rican reggaeton artiste Farruko, Misty Morning by Mystic Marley, and No Woman No Cry by Shenseea.

The other nominees in the Best Reggae Album category are Evolution by The Wailers, Never Gets Late Here by Shenseea, Take it Easy by Collie Buddz, and Party With Me by Vybz Kartel.

This is Kartel’s first Grammy nomination, the first for Shenseea in the Best Reggae Album category, and the second for both Collie Buddz and The Wailers.
