CAFFE to observe general election proceedings in Turks and Caicos
KINGSTON, Jamaica–Local election watchdog Citizens Action for Free and Fair Elections (CAFFE) is set to observe general election proceedings in Turks and Caicos Islands on Friday, February 7.
CAFFE who made the announcement in a statement on Tuesday, said this follows a request from the Governor’s Office.
It said a team of four CAFFE members, including two of the organisation’s directors, will travel to the territory. The observation team will be led by Anton Thompson, deputy chairman of CAFFE and head of mission.
“Two members will arrive on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, and the other two on the 6th. The team will observe and assess the voting and counting on election day,” CAFFE said, noting that its team will provide non-partisan and independent observation of the process.
“The CAFFE team will assess the preparedness for the General Elections and its conduct against relevant international standards and the applicable domestic TCI laws. The team will release a preliminary statement after the elections. A final report on the observation and assessment of the General Elections, including recommendations, will be provided within 30 days of the poll,” it added.
CAFFE concluded by stating its appreciation of the opportunity to support the democratic process in the wider Caribbean region.
