Green Gold Rush stuns rivals in high-claiming event
In a turnaround of form, Green Gold Rush produced a strong come-from-behind victory in an $860,000 three-year-old and upward claiming ($1m-$800,000) event at Caymanas Park on Saturday, February 1, 2025.
Trained by Dalton Sirjue, the eight-year-old bay gelding had been off the board in his last three outings but showed determination to pip rival Sir John (Robert Halledeen) by half-length at the wire.
Racing over seven furlongs (1,400m), Green Gold Rush clocked a winning time of 1:28.2 (24,2 x 48.4 x 1:14.4), securing his seventh career win from 35 starts to boost his stakes earnings to nearly $5 million.
With Dane Dawkins in the saddle, Green Gold Rush trailed the leaders as Great Wayne (Raddesh Roman) set the fractions, followed closely by Storm (Eric Haughton) and Whisky (Tajay Suckoo).
As the field approached the half-mile turn, Dawkins expertly manoeuvred Green Gold Rush to the outside, and the eight-year-old bay gelding began to gain momentum.
Rounding the final bend in third place, Green Gold Rush surged forward, with Dawkins keeping him well-balanced on the outside.
In a nail-biting finish, Green Gold Rush got by Sir John (Robert Halledeen) by half-length, with Great Wayne finishing third.
