They ran, swam, flew
Dear Editor,
The current trending news is about what some consider to be the unjust escalated deportation process being executed by the United States of America. Many fled from native homes to make a better life for themselves and families. They ran, swam, and flew from terrorist homelands.
Today the trek home is one of horror and brings no solace to the nomads. Certain persecution, victimisation, and perhaps death looms ahead. Some were political or religious refugees, condemned for their outspoken views. Sadly, this reality is global.
Evil, jealousy, and ‘bullyism’ are all universal treacheries. Joseph, the biblical hero, was first thrown under the bus by his own brothers. Shamelessly, families make disabled relatives destitute and homeless.
Jesus was shielded by angels, wise men, and his parents to flee to Egypt until He was two years old. His destiny, despite brilliance at age 12, confounding all priests, meant death on a cross at age 33.
We can only take comfort that Christ our advocate has faced our own infirmities — unjust trials and deceptive inner circle betrayals motivated by financial greed. Christ was mocked on the cross. So too will they be cursed: “Yuh go a foreign and worse off.”
Nonetheless, where there is life there is hope.
