Canadian dies in suspected drowning at Negril hotel
HANOVER, Jamaica – The Hanover police say they are currently treating the death of a Canadian guest at a RIU hotel property in Negril, Hanover, on Friday as a suspected case of drowning.
The deceased man has been identified as Jacques Mongrain, who resided at a Canadian address.
Reports indicate that Mongrain was in the water when he apparently got into difficulty shortly after noon on Friday. A lifeguard and another guest reportedly went to his assistance, but he was later pronounced dead despite CPR efforts.
Officer in charge of the Hanover Police Division, Deputy Superintendent Andrew Nish said preliminary reports have indicated nothing to the contrary.
The Negril incident follows a similar incident at the Riu Palace Aquarelle Hotel in Trelawny, where three-year-old Shea Anderson drowned on Monday.
