Released in 1969, Sweet Caroline by Neil Diamond is the classic feel-good song. It recently got a reggae makeover by Rad Dixon, whose version is produced by Tasjay Productions.

The artiste told the Jamaica Observer that James Smith, head of that company, suggested he cover the song which is an anthem at sporting events in the United States. He agreed to do it as Sweet Caroline’s message reflects his outlook on life.

“It’s a song that brings people together. It’s got that vibe that makes you want to sing along and feel good. In these times, we need more unity, more love, and more positivity. So, turning it into a reggae tune felt natural,” he said.

Sweet Caroline is expected to be part of Humility, Rad Dixon’s second album, which is tentatively scheduled for release by April. His first album, Hard Times, was released two years ago by Tasjay Productions.

The artiste hails from Manchester. In the early 1990s he was inspired to get into music seriously by the roots-reggae revival which was led by Garnet Silk and Tony Rebel, who are also from that parish.

He has been recording for over 20 years, with most of his songs done for Smith, another Manchester native. They believe Sweet Caroline is the perfect segue to Humility.

“The name Humility is close to my heart. It reflects the journey I’ve been on and the man I strive to be every day,” said Rad Dixon.
