Wall Street Trader, Mamma Mia poised for dominance
The stage is set for a thrilling day of racing at Caymanas Park, with Wall Street Trader and Mamma Mia expected to deliver convincing wins in their respective divisions of the $1.25-million Allan E “Billy” Williams Memorial Trophy.
In Division One, Wall Street Trader is set to face nine rivals in the seven-furlong (1,400m) Non-Restricted Overnight Allowance contest for three-year-olds and upward, while Mamma Mia is down to take on 10 opponents in Division Two. Both horses are tipped to assert their superiority and leave their competitors in the dust.
Division One is positioned as the eighth race on the card with a post time of 4:45 pm, while Division Two is the ninth and final race with a post time of 5:25 pm. First race is at high noon.
Wall Street Trader, a six-year-old American-bred bay/brown, should be on an afternoon stroll in his section as the rest of the runners in the field lack his class. Wall Street Trader was impressive in his last outing, finishing second to Pack Plays in the Eileen Cliggott Memorial Trophy on January 25.
Despite being beaten by 3½ lengths over 6½ furlongs (1,300m), Wall Street Trader’s strong closing effort suggests he’s poised to lead home his rivals here.
Further and Beyond, Thalita, and Banadura are expected to fight out the finish for the minor placings. Each of these horses has demonstrated impressive form in the past, and will be looking to upset
Wall Street Trader’s bid for glory which makes the battle for second place an exciting affair.
After a 168-day hiatus, Mamma Mia, the former Jamaica 1000 Guineas and Oaks champion, is set to make a highly anticipated return to competitive racing. Despite a disappointing fifth-place finish on August 24, 2024 over nine furlongs and 25 yards (1,820m), Mamma Mia’s class and talent make her a formidable force in this contest.
Her preparations have been nothing short of impressive. The talented filly has been galloping with ease, clocking 1:00.0 for five furlongs (1,000m) on January 25, followed by a scintillating 1:13.4 for six furlongs (1,200m) on February 1. With her impressive stride and evident fitness, Mamma Mia is poised to make a triumphant return to the winners’ circle. Current leading rider Robert Halledeen will ride.
Divine Force, Neo Star, and Money Miser are expected to play prominent roles here.
