Bootylicious poised for dominant win in Reggae Month Trophy

THE Peter-John Parsard-conditioned Bootylicious is expected to make it three wins in a row when she takes on rivals in the $1.4-million Reggae Month Trophy, an Open Allowance contest for three-year-olds and upward over five furlongs (1,000m) on the straight course at Caymanas Park today.

The five-year-old bay mare has been nothing short of brilliant, with four wins from eight starts last season while earning $3,692,400 in stakes. With her front-running style perfectly suited to this distance Bootylicious is expected to leave her rivals in the dust.

Her last two wins have been particularly impressive, including a three-and-half-length victory over six furlongs (1,200m) in 1:12.4 on December 14, 2024. In her most recent outing Bootylicious edged out Desert of Mabilu and Pack Plays in the Christopher Armond Sprint over five and a half furlongs (1,100m), in a blistering 1:05.4. That performance was a testament to her speed, agility, and endurance, and cemented her status as one of the top sprinters in the country.

With her speed and agility Bootylicious is expected to make all the running and coast to her third-consecutive win. Ismael Velasquez will once again partner with Bootylicious who appears to be in top condition after a recent gallop. On February 2 Bootylicious clocked 23.3 seconds for two furlongs, indicating that she is ready to kick off her season in style.

With the Reggae Month Trophy up for grabs the competition is expected to be fierce, however Bootylicious’s impressive form and dominant sprinting ability make her the clear favourite to take home the top prize.

The contest is positioned as the ninth event on the 10-race card with a post time of 4:50 pm, with the first race at 11:50 am.

Perfect Brew, trained by Richard Azan, is expected to pose the greatest threat to the favoured Bootylicious. The six-year-old bay gelding has already made his seasonal debut, finishing third over seven furlongs (1,400m) on January 1, behind Run Julie Run and Barnaby.

Since then Perfect Brew has been training impressively, indicating a strong chance of delivering a top-notch performance. His recent work has been noteworthy, clocking five furlongs in 1:01.2, with a scintillating 47.3 seconds for four furlongs (800m). Jockey Tevin Foster will partner Perfect Brew, and together they will aim to upset the dominant Bootylicious.

Press Conference, Blue Vinyl, and Atlantic Convoy are expected to play prominent roles throughout the race here.
