DaCosta, Halledeen dominate nine-race card at Caymanas Park
THE dynamic duo of trainer Jason DaCosta and jockey Robert Halledeen continued their dominance at Caymanas Park on Saturday, teaming up to win three impressive races on the nine-race card.
Their victories were highlighted by Mamma Mia’s impressive win in Division Two of the $1.25-million Allan E “Billy” Williams Memorial Trophy feature race.
Mamma Mia, a talented five-year-old chestnut mare, delivered a commanding performance in the Open Allowance contest for three-year-olds and upward over seven furlongs (1,400m). Mamma Mia led from start to finish, crossing the line by a length and a half ahead of Neo Star (Shane Ellis) in a time of 1:26.1. Sonny T and Chippy (Omar Walker) took third place, rounding out the top three finishers.
And DaCosta and Halledeen’s winning streak didn’t stop there as they also combined to win the third and fourth races with American Aviator and Lucy in the Sky, respectively.
In an upset, Get A Pepsi, trained by Fitzroy Glispie and ridden by Richard Henry, took the top honours in Division One of the Allan E “Billy” Williams Memorial Trophy. Get A Pepsi, who went off at odds of 17-1, edged out Supremasi (Tevin Foster) by a neck, with Further and Beyond (Aaron Chatrie) finishing third in a time of 1:26.4.
Champion jockey Raddesh Roman was not to be left out as he booted home Pappie Don for trainer Gregg Fennell in the second race, and Unruly Dude for trainer Marvin Campbell in the fifth race.
Racing continues today with a 10-race card starting at 11:50 am.
